Nafpaktos Fort by 4DRealism on Sketchfab
The fort of Nafpaktos
The Castle of Nafpaktos is one of the most representative monuments of fortress architecture in Greece. It dominates the area, standing imposing on a hill, in a location of great strategic importance that enables us to watch over the Rio-Antirio narrow strait, at the entrance to the Corinthian Gulf and in the middle of the Ionian Sea.
Gates - Irongate
The Venetian gate “Iron Gate” leads from the Lower City (first decoration from sea level) to the Upper City. It was not visible from the sea for security reasons, but hidden behind a corner tower. The name is due to its iron cladding. It is protected by an impressive catwalk, with embossed decoration in the type of the Renaissance Italian coat of arms.
The caste of Atnirrio
The Castle of Antirrio, known as “Kasteli of Roumeli”, is built in a strategic position at the southern end of the prefecture of Etoloakarnania and at the narrowest point of the sea passage between Central Greece and the Peloponnese ∙ in the so-called “Little Dardanelles”.
